It is required for all of our classes at All Fur Fun that you attend this 1-2 hour long talk. It’s a human only pow-wow where head instructor Paula Weir teaches you about the primary methods employed here, as well as determines a more personal plan of action for you and your dog.
This is the opportunity to explain to us what sorts of things you know and have been told about training and working with your dog, as well as asking any questions you might have. We will teach you about clicker training, free shaping, positive reinforcement (rewarding the dog), and negative punishment (removing the reward). You will learn why there are certain methods we NEVER use in order to help our dogs understand the things we want from them.
It is also a wonderful chance for you to explain the main concerns you have with your dog, or to ask about the various classes, events, and workshops that are happening here. IPT is designed to help you hit the ground running, but most importantly, start off on the right foot.

“Beth’s CPR & First Aid Seminar is, without question, the most comprehensive and enjoyable pet care class I’ve ever taken. She uses her own experience as a veterinary technician and dog care facility manger to create meaningful scenarios and experiences that you can apply to your own pets. Beth ensures that every student understands each technique by allowing practice on  stuffed dogs and demonstrations with live dogs, which makes the instruction more memorable. The 8 hour class simply flew by! It was a great value and I will be taking it every year from now on.”

One of the skills we teach is the Snout-to-Tail ™ Assessment.
Read how this saved one pet’s life . . .
A pet owner who took our class loved her little dog because she did her homework assignment of the Snout-To-Tail ™ Assessment. Where you go from Snout-To-Tail ™ with deliberate intent and purpose creating a baseline of your pet’s health. Also, so that you know more of what is normal for your pet, so you can more quickly recognize what is not normal for your pet. She found mammary tumors growing on her dog. She took her to the vet, who confirmed the diagnosis. Luckily she caught it early enough that treatment was successful. However, the vet did tell her that if she had let that go just another five or six months, the outcome may not have been as good. This simple skill that can take only a few minutes added thousands of minutes to this pet’s life.
When I tell this story in the classroom, some people wonder how she didn’t notice the mammary tumors in the first place. The thing is that she never really put her hands on her dog, from Snout-To-Tail ™ , with deliberate intent and purpose, like we teach in the class. She said she would come home from work, make her dog dinner, have dinner herself, her dog would sit on her lap and she would pet it.

Second Chance SPCA to Host Eighth Birthday Party

Date/Time
Sunday, March 23, 2014

Location
Second Chance SPCA
1700 J Avenue
Plano, TX 75074

Second Chance SPCA (SCSPCA), a “No-Kill” dog and cat rescue based in Plano, is hosting a Birthday Party for the public on March 23rd from 1 – 3 PM in honor of its eighth year in operation. SCSPCA was founded in Plano in 2006 and has rescued over 2,600 dogs and cats since then. These are animals that would have otherwise been euthanized in municipal shelters throughout the DFW metroplex. The March 23rd event is open to the public and will feature music, food, and entertainment. Leashed dogs are welcome to join the fun.
What: Second Chance SPCA Eighth Birthday Party
When: Sunday, March 23rd, 1 – 3 PM
Where: 1700 J Avenue in downtown Plano, TX
Why: SCSPCA wishes to thank the public for their overwhelming support since its inception in 2006. Since 2006, SCSPCA has rescued over dogs and cats from euthanasia in DFW municipal shelters and placed them with “forever” homes. This would not have been possible without continuous and passionate support from adopters, volunteers, and corporate sponsors. SCSPCA rescue animals receive shelter, medical care, training, and love until they can be adopted out to a family. Animal lives are saved and human lives are impacted, as evidenced by the many happy testimonials that Second Chance SPCA receives from happy adopters.
How: This event is free to the public. No ticket purchase is required.
More: Second Chance SPCA is a volunteer-based organization founded in 2006 and works exclusively with DFW area municipal shelters that are forced to euthanize due to overcrowding. In 2013, SCSPCA was able to purchase a new, larger facility with the help of individuals and corporate friends in the community. The new shelter can currently house more than 40 animals, with additional special-needs animals placed in foster homes. SCSPCA is a 501©3 charity and all donations are tax deductible.
For more information, please visit http://www.seconchancescpa.org or contact SCSPCA at info@secondchancespca.org or (972) 424-0077.

Introduction to Positive Training (IPT) is held every week on Thursdays (7pm-8:30pm) and Saturdays (1pm-2:30pm).
