Thursday, January 8, 2015
5:45 PM - 6:45 PM
Location
All FUR Fun Training and Event Center
15559 Wright Brothers Dr
Addison, TX 75001
Equipment: Your pup, leash and treats/tug toy/Frisbee, etc. Whatever your dog LOVES for reinforcement.
Class Content: We will be training each behavior separately, so the dog will have a complete understanding of every aspect of the sport.
Weeks 1 – 4 will be devoted to:
Scent training and indication: There is no need for the dog to know how to track and find the rat, if he can’t tell you when he’s found it.
Tunnel: Going through the hay tunnel is a pretty basic element on the surface. If you want a dog that will tunnel when they are highly aroused looking for a rat, THAT might be a different story. We will be teaching a reliable tunnel even before the dog has associated a rat with the hay. We’d like the dog to find the tunnel a rewarding behavior in itself, so we can get that done immediately when the dog enters the ring, before he even looks for the rat.
Climb: Climb seems to be much easier to get than tunnel, because the dog will jump on the hay while in search of the rat, in most instances anyway. We still want to teach this aspect to get it out of the way when the dog enters the rat ring, so there is no wasted time.
